Neutral Territory

Valette tank (similar here)
Pinky Otto sailor shorts (similar style here),
H and M ring,
Vintage straw clamshell purse,
Vintage beaded necklace,
Zara rose gold sandals (loving these ones too).

When I'm at a loss for what to wear, I tend to gravitate towards monochromatic or neutral-toned outfits. It's hard to go wrong pairing together similar shades of greys, browns, or whites.

I stole these shorts from Micol's closet at the beginning of summer, but like a fool, eventually let them get lost in the depths of my closet. Of course, when I finally wore them out the other day, Micol immediately asked for them back. Snap!

Paired with a splattered shirt (btw, what would you call this pattern - cow print? dalmation print?) and a few tribal-inspired accessories, looks like we've got a little urban safari theme going on here!

Racerback Maxi (worn as skirt) c/o Intimint

Vintage giraffe-print belt (last seen here),
Balenciaga Dark Havana shades,
Steve Madden sandals
Vintage crossbody bag.

As soon as I saw Lauren wearing this new neon pink maxi with my all time fave white, cross-body drawstring bag, I knew immediately where I wanted to document this look -- at a nearby, now defunct church with bright blue metal grates covering the entrance. There's something so deliciously 80s about this color combo that I couldn't resist.

Outfit documentation complete, Lauren took me to a brand new spot called St. Mazie that actually opened up just a short skip away from my old apartment. As soon as I walked inside I fell in love. With low, mint green tin ceilings, old-school metal fans, boat lights accenting the walls and French wicker tables from the 20s, I had found my soul-style manifest. Seriously, I could live in this place. And the best part is the maze of a hallway that leads to a secret garden-esque backyard. Sadly, Lauren and I were forced back inside as dusk was falling and we are both popular dinner items for mosquitoes, but I look forward to making a return trip there when cooler temps are back in season.

Fall Feasts

Opening Ceremony dress,
DIY military vest (similar style here)
14th & Union heels,
Gypsy Finger Ring c/o Jennifer Fisher,
Flirty Crossbody bag c/o Rebecca Minkoff.

This weekend seems like it's been full of non-stop eating and drinking. And it all started off Friday afternoon with $1 oysters and a few Sidecars during a trip to one of our favorite Happy Hour hangouts, (pictured here) Maison Premiere.

We had to cut our oyster feast short however, as that evening I was playing host to our friends' annual Thanksgiving in August dinner, a pot-luck style feast that inevitably leaves everyone full to the gills. This year, I took on the task of making the turkey (my first ever - and a surprising success!) while Micol prepped an amazing side dish of roasted brussels sprouts with fried onions and almonds.

As for my wardrobe, I wanted to get a little fancy (hence, the form-fitting dress and fun accessories), while still keeping it casual, so I topped the whole look off with my new favorite vest - a piece I created myself by lopping off the arms of a tailored army jacket that I've had since high school. You can bet I'll be wearing this item a ton as we start to transition into Fall.

Flattened + Frayed

Blouse c/o Haute Hippie (similar here),
Thrifted American Apparel cut-off shorts,
Alexander Wang crossbody bag (last seen here),
Coach snakeskin flats (similar style here),
Mossimo belt.

There's something slightly different happening in this post. Can you guess? Lauren is in flats! Though when she proudly displayed her choice in footwear I did point out that I've seen her around town this summer numerous times in sandals without a heel, but apparently that's totally different because they're not closed toe. I suppose she has a point.

What I love most about this outfit though is this Haute Hippie top. The watercolor-esque floral print is gorgeous and surprise, open back! It goes perfectly with another new item in her closet, these perfectly frayed, black cut-off shorts. I don't know about you but when she showed these to me it was like a light went off...THAT'S what my extensive cut-off shorts collection has been missing! Seriously. I need to make a trip to the thrift store ASAP and create a pair of my own.

Rose Gold booties,
Vintage tassle necklace and rings,
Alexander McQueen tote.

It's not often that we shoot in Manhattan, but with plans to hit up 5th Avenue for a little shopping trip, Micol couldn't help bringing her camera along in hopes we'd discover some cool new backdrops.

The first few pics were taken at Drybar, whose white walls and crisp aesthetic immediately caught our eye amidst the bustle of the Flatiron district. A place entirely devoted to making your hair look fab with a blowdryer?  Sign us up!

Finding other interesting locations to shoot was tougher than we thought it'd be, however. Compared to our preferred locations in Brooklyn, everything on 5th Ave seemed so corporate and cold. We finally gave up in order to concentrate full time on shopping. And let's just say, we had better luck with that task.

On the Fringe

MUDD skull necklace,
Vintage bracelet.

You guys, I know. We've been a bit MIA this past week as Lauren has been out of town frolicking in LA, but now she's back! So we can resume our regular scheduled programming. We're still figuring what to do in these kind of situations as we like that our content is entirely based upon what Lauren is wearing and our Brooklyn adventures, but if you guys are open to it we're thinking of changing it up every once in awhile. We're still brainstorming ideas, so if there's anything you'd like to see in particular (DIY, hair tutorials, etc) let us know in the comments!

And now on to what many of you have been waiting for. We have a winner for our 80%20 Shoe Giveaway!

Congrats to Morgan Marks!
We'll be in touch soon with you via email.

Orange Crush

See You Soon trousers (last seen here),
Jessica Simpson patent pumps,
Mossimo crossbody bag (last worn here).

United Bamboo has long been one of my favorite fashion labels and it's also one of the shows I most look forward to during NY Fashion Week. Based in NYC and Tokyo, the designers behind the brand, Aoki Miho and Thuy Pham, both studied design in NYC. While Aoki was a graduate of FIT, Pham studied architecture at Cooper Union, and it's not hard to see these influences infused in each collection. Combining architectural, urban forms with Japanese artistry (think pleats and intricate fabric treatments that evoke origami), each season is full of one-of-a-kind pieces that are impossible not to lust after.

This shirt is one of my favorite items of clothing, not only for its bold color, but because of the subtle draping in front. I love it so much, I actually have the dress version of it too, which is especially fun to wear during Fall with some printed tights and cute boots. So while I may not be looking forward to colder weather, I'm definitely looking forward to getting that bad boy out of storage...

Girls' Night Out

H&M minidress (worn as top - similar style here)
 Richard Chai for Target skirt,
Mossimo Straw Clutch (last seen here and here),
Ray Ban sunglasses,
Vintage belt,
Erie Wedges c/o 80%20.

Lauren's boyfriend has been missing in action these past few weeks (work trip) so I've commandeered her into several girls' nights out. Which isn't all that different from what we normally do, except there's a lot less of me third-wheeling it.

This time, as a reminder to everyone that they have only FOUR more days to enter our first ever giveaway, Lauren decided to wear her new fave 80%20 Erie wedges for a little bar hop in Greenpoint. Lucky for her, they're super comfortable... it's almost as if they were built for drinking & dancing.

PS. Yes, that is a Gideon cameo! How do you like his camo-kerchief?

All in the Details

Lush lace tank top,
Cuffed Trouser Shorts c/o Flirt Catalog
Nanette Lepore handbag (last seen here),
Vince Camuto Bello heels,

During summer in NYC, it's rare that I want to toss on more than a tank top and shorts, so I rely greatly on intricate details to elevate a basic outfit into one that I feel comfortable wearing at work and beyond.

Between the lace cutouts on this tank, the pleated shorts with hidden side-zipper, and Jennifer Fisher's ornate, head-turning jewelry (how awesome is that bullet cuff?), I definitely felt covered.

Thrifted necklace.

You know how they say, "time flies when you're having fun?" We can't quite believe it's already been six months since we launched The Marcy Stop, but it's true! Remember when Lauren was wearing five layers of clothing and every post was a lament to cold weather? Actually, let's not go there, because Fall is around the corner and we'll be re-living it soon enough.

To celebrate these six months of fun and sartorial documentation, we've teamed up with one of our favorite shoe brands, 80%20, to give away a pair of their super-comfortable and cute Erie wedges in Rye. Micol was last seen in them in Black here.

So how do you win these puppies? Well first, you need to be residing in the US (sorry to any international readers). Then just:

1. Follow The Marcy Stop on GFC or Bloglovin'.
