Shine On

Heading home for the holidays isn't always glam, but you can still fake it in the right getup.

Feather sequin jacket, Knot-front mini dress and Croc-effect clutch c/o Topshop, Hue tights, Nasty Gal necklace, Sam Edelman boots. Shot by Isaac Lacey.

Let's be honest: as fun, loving and downright glitzy as the holidays are made out to be, they're also pretty damn stressful. What else do you expect when families come together after months apart and all of a sudden pretend to get along perfectly, when companies awkwardly force employees to bond at their holiday party when they've never had a drink together in their life, or when 60% of your high school class finds themselves in your all-too-small town again, frequenting the same bars you did ten years ago? In my opinion, there are too many unrealistic expectations floating around this time of year, many of which will never be met.

My solution? Dress up, show up and wish for the best... whether you're about to be surrounded by a pool of weird coworkers, distant relatives, or awful ex-besties. Your armor? A great party dress (I'm loving Topshop's options right now), some fun accessories, a bold lip and a glass of wine. If you can get a plus one, a cute wingman (or woman) never hurts either! Or just stash a few mini bottles of booze in your purse and see where the evening takes you. At least you'll have a few good stories to tell your friends for the rest of the year...

That said, wish me luck during my trip back home to LA this week! And most of all, Happy Thanksgiving. Hope you're kicking off this holiday season with people you love.

Thanks for stopping by! I read all of your comments and love hearing from you. xL
