Give yourself a break.

New York can creep up on you if you're not too careful. All the noise, the pressure, the people, the traffic. Escapes are necessary, if not crucial, for survival. St. Thomas gave me just the way out I needed.
We set off from the island's largest city, Charlotte Amalie, in search of peace and quiet, and found it by way of an awesome Airbnb on the top of Red Hook Mountain, overlooking the port and small town below. From there we planned a series of day trips to hang at all the pristine, local beaches we could possibly hit: Secret Harbour, Lindquist, Coki, Magen's Bay, Frenchman's Reef. And to be honest, none of them disappointed.
How amazing it is to wake up in the morning just to slip on a bikini, some sunscreen and a little bronzer. Enjoy breakfast with a mimosa and ample sunshine. No itinerary, no place to be. Just the beach waiting on some nearby shore for your body to leave a warm imprint in its sand. Palm trees swaying overhead, the distant sound of brass drums, the lingering taste of rum, the searing heat of the sun on your skin, clear turquoise waters just a footstep away for relief.
Bottom line: if you have a chance to travel to St. Thomas (helpful hint: book a flight at least 6 months in advance if you want a fab deal).... take it. You won't regret your decision.
