La Vie en Rose

Obsessed with two-pieces, and I'm not talking swim.

Striped bow bralette and skirt two-piece c/o Abercrombie, Madewell x Cambridge Satchel crossbody bag, ZeroUV Retro sunnies, Zara sandals. Shot by Jessica Gould in Los Angeles.

I first posted an image of this look on Instagram during my stay in LA last month. It was taken by my sister at the Exposition Park Rose Garden, a historical, botanical paradise tucked away near USC’s campus that just happened to be in full bloom right around the time of my visit. I’m a sucker for all things floral (especially roses), so I dragged her and her husband Marc to tour the grounds with me. (Admittedly, I was also hoping to snap a few photos of my this two-piece that I was ever so excited to wear after having just flown over from a still-frigid Brooklyn.)

A few minutes after I posted the photo to Instagram, a friend of mine who used to live in NYC sent me a screenshot of the pic commenting, ‘I couldn’t figure out what looked different about you, and then I realized… it looks like you have huge boobs in this picture!’ I looked a little closer and indeed, my normally flat-chest was looking much more rotund than usual. We had a good laugh about her observation (I let her know that I had actually come to LA for a boob job) and in the end we decided it was a combination of the shadows, the high cut of the bralette and the linear pattern that added to my newfound chest appeal.

What’s funny is now I can’t stop thinking about her comment every time I wear this set. People have been using fashion to enhance their features since the beginning of time. And while I love great tailoring and think I have an idea of what type of clothes best accentuate my body type, at the same time there are always subtle nuances to what you wear that require the keen eye of an outside observer to notice. At first, I loved wearing this two-piece because it was lightweight, a cute pattern, and made me feel confident because it revealed just the right amount of skin without being too showy. But now that I know of it’s other ‘advantages,' well… expect to see me rocking it all the time! Searching for a similar look? Shop more adorable two-pieces here.
