One of my big goals this summer? Try not to wear any pants. Which sounds a little restricting and tough to actually abide by, but in reality is just a way for me to look at my wardrobe in a different way in hopes of getting more wear out of the things I own.
Take this French Connection dress for example. Normally, I would leave it in the back of my closet until I had a fancy occasion to bring it out for: a dinner, a wedding, a date night with the man. By forcing myself to look beyond my go-to jeans & tee for a casual weekday look, I've come up with ways to dress down even this: the frilliest of all dresses that I currently own. You'd be surprised what a few edgy accessories and a couple of layers can do to transform a piece!
So next time you're reaching for your tried-and-true jeans, try reaching for your closest dress instead! Nothing's too fancy! Here's a few sure-fire ways I've found to dress down any look:
- Vest to Impress: Leather, denim and/ or moto vests layered over dresses add a little toughness to the look, while a longline vest is perfect for the office.
- Toss on a Tee: In the same way you might have layered turtlenecks under your dresses for winter, grab your standard t-shirt and layer it under your dresses this summer for an easy-going look that's still elevated.
- That's a wrap: Take a denim, white or a plaid button-up and wrap it around your waist for a 90's throwback style that instantly gives you a casual flair.
- Sneak up on it: Pair a fancy dress with high tops or some converse to achieve another level of casual-cool. Don't trust me? Check out these Pinterest finds.
