There's a dark side to every city. Especially one like LA.

Ah, sunny Los Angeles. The city of angels... the place dreams supposedly come true. There's something so iconic about its tree-lined streets, sprawling boulevards, sandy beaches & always blue skies. But underneath its gleaming exterior is just another grimy, big city with a dark history. Maybe darker than most because of the illusory cloud of perfection that hangs over Hollywood.
Perhaps that's why I love the moodiness of the images above, which were actually shot on a sunny, picturesque day with my friend Andrew who recently just relocated back to LA from NYC. They're cinematic in a way, but also somehow reveal the underbelly of a city that's both expanding and decaying at a rapid pace. For me, they seem to capture a mix of melancholy and restlessness. And that's just how my hometown makes me feel at times.
Needless to say, I'm happy to be back in NYC! For the moment at least... let's check in again when it starts to snow.
