NYFW: Posh Punk

3.02.2017

From the runways to reality, adopting a punk attitude might just be the best approach to getting dressed.

Sachin + Babi lace mini dress (sample), ASOS studded biker jacket, Fur cadet hat (on sale here!) c/o Alekka, Zero UV sunnies, Elena Ghisellini fur crossbody (sample - similar here), River Island zip-front booties. Shot by Alexandra Voyatzakis at NYFW.

My favorite outfits usually result when there's a mix of styles going on. To me, more is always more... so long as you remain confident in what you're wearing and are expressing your own POV. Most importantly, I think it's time to rebel against the idea of 'matching.' If we all have different outlooks on the world and our tastes all differ, who's to say what goes or doesn't go together?!

It's time to nip fashion conformity in the bud, once and for all.

While some people might think of 'punk fashion' as being all about the 80's, tattoos, piercings & studs, it is actually defined as any way of dressing that's an expression of nonconformity and an opposition to the status-quo. And I LOVED that this rebellion was all over the catwalks this NYFW. Below I share a few favorite snaps from designers Calvin Luo, Nicole Miller & Verdad, who (much like me) all sprinkled their version of femininity with a dash of this punk attitude.

From top to bottom: 1., 2. & 3. I loved that Calvin Luo's FW17 show incorporated multiple messages of non-conformity (some sweaters went so far as to have the words 'Asexual' written on them) along with subtle nods to punk fashion including reworked plaid, mesh, and metal hoop accents. // 4., 5. & 6. Verdad's pairing of pretty, flowing dresses with edgy patent jackets and subtle punk details (like leather driving gloves) was bold, beautiful and oh-so-wearable. Check out his full FW17 show here. // 7., 8. & 9. Nicole Miller's runway is always rich in pattern, texture and inspiration from around the world, and this season's 'gypsy grunge' vibe made it no different. Standouts from the FW17 collection included leather layered over funky patterned dresses, baroque patterns & chain-embellished pieces
