A 3-hour flight away with the promise of infinite sunshine? It's no wonder this is one of my favorite New York City escapes....

Today's forecast in NYC called for snow, so imagine my surprise when it proceeded to sleet instead, raining down pellets of ice onto my white retro booties as I dodged icy puddles en route to a meeting in Soho this morning. Unprepared for such a deluge, I was forced to buy a cheap $3.99 umbrella from the first bodega I saw... one that inevitably wound up blowing inside-out at the first chance it had to spite me and join forces with the frigid wind. 

What I realized today, while editing these snaps from a long weekend out of town at the beginning of February, is that wintry moments like these--when you're unprepared for the elements, when your hands, nose and other extremities are red and chafed from the icy cold, when all you want to do is curl up at home with the heat blasting and a bottle of whiskey--are singlehandedly responsible for my  undying love for Miami. 

And though the tan may have sadly since faded, these warm memories will probably keep me going for months to come. Or, until my next tropical escape, that is... which happens to be just around the corner!
